CNN —An Indian railway security officer opened fire on a moving train in the country’s western Maharashtra state on Monday, killing four people, according to a spokesperson for the Western Railway. The incident occurred on a passenger train traveling from Jaipur to Mumbai around 6 a.m. local time (8:30 p.m. ET Sunday), the spokesperson told Indian news agency Asian News International on camera. He was arrested by police after he pulled the alarm and jumped off the train, the spokesperson continued. Divisional Railway Manager Neeraj Kumar told reporters that the families are being contacted and compensation would be given to the next of kin.

A 2017 video showing a train moving along a rickety track has been widely shared as the current state of rail infrastructure in Ohio. A spokesperson for the Ohio Rail Development Commission told Reuters that the tracks, which are part of the NDW line in Ohio, have since been “improved”. A spokesperson for the Ohio Rail Development Commission in an e-mail said: “The rail on the old video clip was improved as part of the 2020 Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) project completed last year. The Ohio Rail Development Commission in 2021 approved a grant of up to $687,622.50 to replace the rail on a portion of the Napoleon Defiance and Western Railways (NDW) (here). The Ohio railway track in the video is from 2017 and has since been repaired.

ACCRA, July 19 (Reuters) - Ghana's government will sign an agreement next week with Thelo DB consortium for a $3.2 billion project to develop and make operational its Western Railway Line, the company said in a statement on Tuesday. Thelo DB is a South African railway entity incorporated between Thelo Ventures, an African industrial company, and Germany's Deutsche Bahn Engineering & Consulting (DB). The Thelo DB consortium also includes Ghanaian partner Transtech Consult. Transportation of cement, mining equipment and petroleum will also benefit from construction of the rail line, the ministry added. "The Western Railway Line Project will transform Ghana's existing railway infrastructure base into a modern, robust and integrated railway system," Thelo DB said in its statement.
